Membership and monthly meetings

Mansfield & District U3A is open to anyone over 50 who is no longer working full-time, subject to places being available for new members. (It may prove especially useful to the recently retired!)

The annual subscription for membership is £15.00 for the year 1st August to 31st July 2010 and will fall to £12.50 for 2011 - as prudent cost control and the income from well-supported events and our book table will enable our U3A to offer one of the lowest subscription levels in the country next year.

  • Renewal of subscriptions falls due at the September meeting but an extension to November (only) is allowed before names are removed from the membership list.
  • Members receive a mailing of U3A News published by The Third Age Trust each quarter.
  • There is no admission fee for the monthly U3A meeting but a charge of £1.00 is made for refreshments. (Please pay with coins rather than notes).
  • Some interest groups charge meeting costs to cover speakers' fees, room and coach hire, etc, and operate car-sharing schemes.

Contact Avril McGee, the membership secretary, on 452688 if you'd like to know more, or use the 'Contact Us' link on the side bar.

The lecture list for the current year is at the bottom of this page.

Meting at Oakham Suite, Mansfield

General Information
Contacting in personThe officers of the Mansfield & District U3A and the co-ordinators of the interest groups welcome personal contact at the main monthly meetings held in Mansfield.
Venue for monthly meetingsMonthly meetings for all members are held on the third Tuesday of each month (except August and December) from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm at The Oakham Suite, 155 Nottingham Road, Mansfield NG18 4AE (next to The Talbot Inn) which has full disabled access.
  • Doors open at 9.45 am and meetings start with general and interest group announcements at 10.00 am, before a tea/coffee break and a presentation by a guest speaker at 11.00 am.
  • A bookstall for sale of second-hand books and CDs is an important feature of all meetings as the proceeds help to keep subscriptions low. (Donations are always welcome too!)
  • Car parking at the rear of the Hall - please share cars if possible.
Phone enquiriesThe officers have no phone or fax facilities at The Oakham Suite. At other times please telephone Carole Justice, the secretary, on 01623 491809.
PaymentsAll payments to the treasurer should be by cheque, in a sealed envelope bearing the purpose of the payment, your name and your address. For membership subscriptions - due in September - please ensure all members' names and addresses covered by the enclosed cheque are written on the back of the envelope. Envelopes can be handed to the treasurer at the monthly meetings. Cheques should be made payable to Mansfield & District U3A unless stated otherwise.
