The Group, which is a joint venture between Mansfield and Dukeries U3As, currently comprises 20 members, meeting on the second Monday of the month at the Forest Lodge Restaurant, Edwinstowe, commencing at 11.00 am.
Meetings are well attended, and as confidence and knowledge has grown, discussions have got livelier, but remain good natured and humorous. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the debates relating to purchases and/or sales and all members appear to enjoy being part of the group and seem to have benefited from the experience. After the meetings, most members stay for an enjoyable lunch.
We currently have a diverse portfolio of shares and, although a few are showing a loss, most are now in profit. However, all individual members are now in a gain situation and we all believe that, considering the worldwide problems which have arisen since we commenced seven years ago, we have done exceptionally well, particularly compared to other similar groups.
If anyone requires further information on any aspect of the group's activities please contact John Florence the leader. |

This ancient Chinese exercise combines relaxed, slow movement in a calm but alert mental state and is often described as being rooted in the ground. Movements are performed in an upright position and are suitable for all age groups.
It is important to have a good teacher and we in Mansfield are lucky enough to have an excellent one. Ken Meade is well qualified for the job and is a thrice international gold-medallist. Last year he was honoured by Notts County Council for his work with disadvantaged people.
Its importance is now widely recognised by NHS trusts as being beneficial to patient recovery from a range of illnesses. One study has shown participants had decreased their blood pressure considerably after only a short period of practice. It supports joints and, whilst knee pain can be a barrier to exercise, another study reported Tai Chi performed for fifty minutes a week provided a significant decrease in pain and fatigue in rheumatoid arthritis sufferers. Another report in the Journal of Geriatric Sciences on people over 70 states that this exercise improved physical confidence and reduced accidents by 40%. Diabetes sufferers also benefit, including improvements in blood-sugar levels and better sleeping, all in a matter of just three months.
The most important benefit in our own experience is that it just makes us feel good! All this for a modest financial outlay to cover rent and tutelage.
