English Country Dancing

The Mansfield U3A English Country Dancing group began to meet more than seven years ago to help members improve their dancing skills. Gill (our caller) and Brian (music) have continued to travel from beyond Gainsborough to share their knowledge.

A number of our original members are still attending and our venue remains at South Forest. For the benefit of new members (and in case we have forgotten) dances are initially walked through and the formations can be long. circular or square.

The aims are to enjoy this social activity, have some gentle exercise along with the music and history of the dances from past centuries. New dances are introduced on a regular basis – they look wonderful and complicated when we get them right but can be hilarious when wrong. We have no expectations of invitations to perform in a BBC costume drama!

We will resume after the winter break on 21st January 2012 and it may be possible to take one or two new members, particularly if they have danced previously. See me at the monthly meeting.

Best wishes for 2012.
